প্রারম্ভিক জীবন
এ. কে. ফজলুক হক ১৮৭৩ সালে ২৬ অক্টোবর বরিশাল জেলার রাজাপুর থানার সাতুরিয়া গ্রামে মামার বাড়িতে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তিনি কাজী মুহম্মদ ওয়াজেদ এবং সাইদুন্নেসা খাতুনের একমাত্র পুত্র ছিলেন। এ. কে. ফজলুক হকের প্রাথমিক শিক্ষা বাড়িতেই শুরু হয়। পরে তিনি গ্রাম্য পাঠশালায় ভর্তি হয়েছিলেন। গৃহ শিক্ষকদের কাছে তিনি আরবি, ফার্সি এবং বাংলা ভাষা শিক্ষা লাভ করেন। ১৮৮১ সালে তিনি বরিশাল জিলা স্কুলে তৃতীয় শ্রেণীতে ভর্তি হন। ১৮৮৬ সালে অষ্টম শ্রেণীতে তিনি বৃত্তি লাভ করেন এবং ১৮৮৯ সালে ফজলুল হক প্রবেশিকা পরীক্ষায় তৎকালীন ঢাকা বিভাগে মুসলমানদের মধ্যে প্রথম স্থান দখল করেন। ফজলুল হক তাঁর প্রখর স্মৃতিশক্তির কারণে শিক্ষকদের খুবই স্নহভাজন ছিলেন।প্রবেশিকা পাশ করার পর উচ্চ শিক্ষা লাভের জন্যে তিনি কলকাতায় গমন করেন। ১৮৯১ সালে কলকাতা প্রেসিডেন্সি কলেজ থেকে এফ.এ. পরীক্ষায় প্রথম বিভাগে উত্তীর্ণ হন। সে সময় প্রেসিডেন্সি কলেজে রসায়ন শাস্ত্রের অধ্যাপক ছিলেন আচার্য প্রফুল্লচন্দ্র রায়। নিজের মেধার বলে তিনি প্রফুল্লচন্দ্র রায়ের দৃষ্টি আকর্ষন করেন। এফ.এ. পাশ করার পর তিনি গণিত, রসায়ন ও পদার্থ বিদ্যায় অনার্সসহ একই কলেজে বি.এ. ক্লাসে ভর্তি হন। ১৮৯৩ সালে তিনি তিনটি বিষয়ে অনার্সসহ প্রথম শ্রেণীতে বি.এ. পাশ করেন। বি.এ. পাশ করার পর এম.এ. ক্লাসে প্রথমে ভর্তি হয়েছিলেন ইংরেজি ভাষায়। পরীক্ষার মাত্র ছয় মাস আগে তাকে এক বন্ধু ব্যঙ্গ করে বলেছিলেন যে, মুসলমান ছাত্ররা অঙ্ক নিয়ে পড়ে না, কারণ তারা মেধাবী নয়। এই কথা শুনে এ. কে. ফজলুক হকের জিদ চড়ে যায়। তিনি প্রতিজ্ঞাবদ্ধ হন যে, অঙ্কশাস্ত্রেই পরীক্ষা দেবেন। এরপর, মাত্র ছয় মাস অঙ্ক পড়েই তিনি প্রথম শ্রেণী লাভ করেন। খেলাধুলার প্রতি ফজলুল হক খুবই আগ্রহী ছিলেন। তিনি প্রথম জীবনে নিজে বিভিন্ন খেলাধুলার সাথে জড়িত ছিলেন এবং পরবর্তীকালে বিভিন্ন খেলাধুলার পৃষ্ঠপোষক হিসেবেও তিনি পরিচিত ছিলেন। তিনি মোহামেডান ফুটবল ক্লাবের প্রতিষ্ঠার সময় থেকে জড়িত ছিলেন। এছাড়া তিনি দাবা, সাঁতার সহ বিভিন্ন খেলা পছন্দ করতেন।
